  • Park Overview

The following is from the Morris County Park Commission website:

Mount Paul Memorial Park is a 285-acre tract of land that contains the headwaters for Gladstone Brook (a trout stream). It is undeveloped but directly adjacent to Mt Paul Road, where a Schiff trail and Burnett Brook is located.   In 19th century, the Thompson family owned the land and named it Mount Paul Farm.  Later it was owned by the Winston family as the 950-acre Wistone estate,  portions of which were donated for preservation.

The American Chestnut Foundation planted an orchard in this park in 2004. Crossing American Chestnut with Chinese Chestnut, the goal is to develop a blight-resistant tree. This process is anticipated to take 6 generations, or 48 years.
