Announcing the first Chester Trails hike of the 2014 season! Teun Ott will lead a guided hike on The Patriot’s Path on Saturday May 17, 2014. It will start at the parking lot in Schooley’s Mountain Park in Washington Township, NJ, and end at the hunter’s parking lot on Furnace Road x Tannersbrook Road in Chester Township, NJ. This hike is expected to take between 2.5 and 3 hours.

Meet at 9:00 a.m. at the hunter’s parking lot on Furnace Road x Tanners Brook Road. We will leave some cars there and drive the
rest to Schooley’s Mountain Park. The route consists of several stretches, all of which have white blazes:

From the parking in Schooleys Mountain Park to the Overlook (maintained by Joanne and George Bowden);
From the Overlook to the parking lot on Fairview Ave (maintained by Dennis Daly);
Columbia Trail from Fairview Ave to the exit for Palmer Park (maintained by Jean Haggas);
Columbia Trail to Tanners Brook Road (maintained by Brian Coan and Teun Ott, this stretch passes through the parking lot of
Palmer Park on Bartley Road);
Short roadwalk on Tanners Brook Road to the hunter’s parking lot.

There is the option of extending the hike by continuing east on the Patriot’s Path past Tannersbrook Road, to the old Railroad Bridge over the Black River, or even to the site of the old Furnace, and then backtracking to Tanners Brook Road. That stretch is maintained by Bruce Clark.
